Life and love on a Saturday night....

How strange it is to sit here alone on a Saturday night with nothing but my favorite Van Morrison cd and glass of wine. I can't even remember the last time I have a done this. The princess is at a four hour bday party (lucky me, poor bday Mom) and that cute guy in the pic is still away (come home, I miss you).

What did I used to do with my Saturday nights before I was a Mum? Oh wait, one of those probably led to me becoming a Mum:) Even when life is crazy hectic, our home is a disaster and I feel as though I could scream...I still wouldn't go back even if I could. For as long as I can remember, the most important thing to me was becoming a Mum, next was falling in love.....check and check. Life is good.

I have been thinking as of late that I will dig out my novel and get back at it...finish it once and for all. Many Saturday nights were spent writing, drinking wine, editing, shedding a few tears, and more writing......I think this is what I will do with my Saturday night...get back to my book....get reaquainted with the Small Boobed Waitress.....if for no other reason than to make my friend Janice happy, she says she needs to know what happens next.

My Marathon weekend

CONRATULATIONS to my princess for completing her first marathon. 4.2km in 38 minutes...way to go Aunaka!!! I love this picture. It was taken seconds before the gun went off, you can feel the excitement. One thing that this little girl is not lacking is confidence. I hope life never gets the chance to knock it out of her, I hope she feels as confident at 25 as she does in this picture. I think I am inspired to run with her next year and maybe even run in a marathon of my own.
The marathon kicked off our long weekend. These events followed:
-> swimming birthday party, Saturday 530-730
-> visit from Mum and Dad, Sunday morning
-> mini golf birthday party, Sunday 3-5
-> supper with my best friend Kim, Sunday @6
-> once A was in bed, I lay on the couch in complete silence and finally finished "The Secret Life of Bees". Finishing a good book is such a bitter sweet feeling.
-> early to rise, Monday, had to make emergency run for food for our cat that my parents returned yesterday
-> Sunday, 2 - Aunaka off to the airport with Daddy to pick up Lisa and her new American Girl
It felt so wonderful to put myself to bed last night. Though my long weekend was busy, it was relaxing in its own way. This mornging I felt rested and ready to face another week.

Mondays vs Fridays

I think I find Friday mornings more difficult than Monday mornings. On Mondays, I sigh at the realization that another week of work is before me, drink an extra cup of java, then jump into my week feet first and go for it. On Fridays, I sigh at the realization that I have to make it through this one final day in order for the weekend to begin, this thought alone makes the day drag along

Luckily today I have plenty to keep me busy and the day should fly. I am leaving half an hour later as I am not headed to the office, but instead to a big staff meeting with the President of my organization at one of our other locations. I love these big meetings for many reasons...there is always coffee and fruit, I get the chance to see some wonderful people that I don't see often enough, but the biggest reason is that I feel full when I leave. By full, I don't mean my stomach, I mean my spirit. Our President has a way with words and a passion for the organization that is contagious....at least to me, I always seem to catch her passion after listening to her speak. After this piece of inspiration, I am off to the Build Green Atlantic trade show. I love trade shows for the networking, the new knowledge and of course, the freebies.

I wish all Fridays could be like this one, then I would have to deem Thursday as my least fave morning. Have a wonderful weekend. I will be watching my little princess run her first marathon.....I can't wait:)

Just Another Manic Monday

Here I sit, coffee in hand, eyes barely open preparing myself to face another week. I just read an article on the amount of sleep one needs and the health benefits of the appropriate amount of zzzz's. I need to get more sleep.

Goals for the week:
1. Upload Adobe Photoshop and begin reading the manual
2. Make points chart with Aunaka. Good behavior and completed chores earn her points, sassy behavior and not helping around the house take away her points. Points can be used to get things she wants (ie, icecream, a trip to the movies, a new book). I like this system, it will hopefully make her responsible for her choices. Key word here: choices.
3. Go for atleast one swim - no less that 1km
4. Do not buy even one coffee
5. Read every night with Aunaka

The sun is shining bright this morning, I think that is a good sign for how this week will play out. Have a great week:)

Happy Mommy Day

Happy Mommy Day to all of the wonderful Mums out there, especially to my Mum (I love you Mooma). My day was fantastically fabulous. I awoke to an excited whisper fest between my daughter and my favorite guy. I kept my eyes closed as not to let her know that I was aware of the impending surprise which consisted of breakfast and flowers that she had hidden under her bed the night before.

With the smell of bacon filling the air, I lay in bed reading "The Secret Life of Bees", which I have been trying to finish for about a month now, a few pages at a time. As a single working parent, or any parent for that matter, life does not allow for much reading time, so to make it through two uninterrupted chapters was wonderful. Though I was not sleeping, I still consider this to be a sleep in morning...I had the entire bed to myself, Miley Cyrus was not whining away on my tv, and there was not a certain little girlie asking if she could please have two freezies for breakfast (you never know, I just might say yes one day).

At one point, I got up and stood in my doorway so that I could hear what was going on in the kitchen, I had to cover my mouth so that my giggles were not heard. Rob asked Aunaka what came first, the chicken or the egg. She gave it some thought and decided that the egg must have come first. This discussion led her to inform Rob that humans 'transformed' from monkeys, Big Guy (my dad, a biology professor) had told her so. Rob asked what kind of monkeys....."chimpanzees" was her response. I love that little girl.

After a delicious breakfast, we decided to head out to the Public Gardens and the Museum of Natural History. It was so nice to see so many Mums out enjoying their day, young Mums, middle aged Mums and older Mums....so nice. I even saw some Dads spending the day alone with thier kiddies and hoped that they had sent the Mums to the spa for the day....that would be a wonderful day too.

We decided to top the day off with a sausage from the Spring Garden sausage guy. We sat on the wall and enjoyed every bite (except for the parts of Aunaka's bun that she shared with the pigeons). The only thing missing from this scene was Bud the Spud and the smell of greasy fries....mmmmmm.... Halifax is already missing you Bud.

Now my girlie is in the tub, I have a load of laundry on and the dishwasher going, lunches to make, bed time stories and then off to bed.....ahhhhh, the life of a Mum......I wouldn't trade it for any amount of money in the world. I am truly blessed in this life. Happy Mommy Day. xo
